Canberra ASH - Forum on Smoking and Tobacco Issues - 02 October 2008

Canberra ASH (Action on Smoking & Health) held a forum on Smoking and Tobacco Issues on Thursday 2 October, 2008 at the Function Room at Havelock House, 85 Northbourne Avenue, Turner.

The questions for candidates and party representatives were:

  • Do you/does your party intend to take any action to lessen or remove the risk to workers in the hospitality industry from exposure to tobacco smoke?
  • Where do you/does your party stand in relation to the public retail display of tobacco products?
  • Do you/does your party support prohibition of smoking in cars and other circumstances where children could be exposed to tobacco smoke, and if so when can we expect action?
  • Would you/your party initiate or support the thorough overhal of ACT legislation relating to tobacco and smoking issues following an Assembly inquiry into best practice in Australia and overseas?
  • What strategies would you/yourparty employ to promote greater respect for compliance with smoke free environments and achieve more effective enforcement of legislation among those indifferent to the rights of others not to have tobacco smoke inflicted on them in particular situations?
  • What initatives would you/your party take to minimise the harm from smoking among the more disadvantaged sections of our community
